William R. "Bill" Gill

William R. Gill, 84, was born the oldest of three children, in Terre Haute, IN, March 16, 1940, to Edward and Grace (Morlan) Gill. Following graduation from Hutsonville High School in 1958, Bill started working for Arthur Woolverton Jr. in Hutsonville in the Mobilgas Bulk Delivery business and at the Woolverton Mobilgas filling station where he eventually became the mechanic for the station doing brake pad replacements, fixing flat tires, changing oil and lubricating cars, changing brushes in generators and pumping gas.
Bill enlisted in the Illinois National Guard in January 1962 and served honorably for six years, attaining the rank of Specialist E-6 with the Transportation Battalion at the Paris Armory, Paris, IL. His unit was "called-up' a couple of times and Bill went to Texas with his Unit. While serving with the "Guard" Bill learned so many skills in the field of auto mechanics so that he eventually opened his own shop, "Bills Garage" in the old Crutcher's Marathon Station in Hu
